Self-publishing has gotten a bad rap for a long time, but it hasn’t always been this way. Virginia Woolf used to publish her own books, after all. And what about zine culture? Is traditional publishing for wusses who are happy to relinquish control of their art, or is it the only way to guarantee quality? Heck, we don’t know. Good thing we scheduled this debate to find out! Is self publishing a purer way of publishing or do we need the gatekeepers?
“I have so much love for zine culture. It’s so punk rock. That approach of not waiting for someone else to say your writing or art is ready to be in the world.” – Kat Muscat
