April-Rose Desalegn

AprilRose Desalegn is an African-Australian performer, writer and filmmaker from Sydney, Australia. Funny, transgressive and off-kilter, her work probes boldly into unsolvable human problems. As a neurodivergent, second-generation immigrant from Ethiopia, April intimately understands how miscommunication is just as hilarious as it is heartbreaking, and injects this comedy into all her stories.

A self-proclaimed creative chameleon, April starred and wrote for Rebecca Metcalf’s short THE EVICTION which was selected as Best Australian Short at MIFF 2025. The film also made it to SFF’s Dendy Awards Shortlist of 2025; April’s credit as Assistant Director also appeared on the shortlist for Miski Omar’s BUTTON PUSHER.

April has completed a Bachelor of Laws at UTS, a Master of Fine Arts (Dramatic Writing) at NIDA, is an actor represented by leading agency Morrissey Management and is a model represented by People Agency.
