Betty Sweetlove is a writer and emerging theatre maker based in Mparntwe (Alice Springs). Before moving to Central Australia, Betty lived in south-east England where she grew up, and London where she studied history at SOAS. She is passionate about the possibilities of community-based theatre for connection, memory-making and collective action. Betty wrote walking tours exploring the making of local heritage for the Alice Springs Desert Festival (2017), and as the inaugural artist in residence at the Women’s Museum of Australia (2019). Betty’s short plays have been performed at Totem Theatre and Browns Mart Theatre. This year, Betty is interning with Zen Zen Zo Physical Theatre to develop her skills as a director. She is currently mentored by Ciella Williams, thanks to Australian Theatre for Young People’s Fresh Ink program (2020).
