DUSK MOUTH 名 is a duo of composer and writer Xiaole Zhan (詹小乐) and violinist May Zeng. We explore the collision of words and music as cultural storytelling. We have premiered music at the Brunswick Mechanics Institute, in the 2024 New Music Studio series, on 3MBS radio, and our work has been screened internationally in Berlin. DUSK MOUTH 名 comes from the Chinese character for ‘name: 名’ which is made of the character for ‘dusk: 夕’ and the character for ‘mouth: 口’. A name – like music – is a call in the dark.
